This is a Grandmother's Fan pattern quilt from the 1930's. It measures 66 x 84". It has muslin for the front onto which the fans have been appliqued. The batting is all cotton. The back is a solid pink like the pink in the base of many of the fans. It is hand pieced and hand quilted with 14 stitches per inch. It is in excellent condition with no fading or tears but there is one block that has a small age stain. The colors in the fabrics are clear and bright. The calicos appear to be mostly old feed sack fabrics that were used for anything from clothing to quilts. A truly marvelous old quilt.

Red and Blue Triangles - Double Sided Quilt

#1004065

$300.00

This scrap quilt is done in various red and blue calicos from the 1970's and early 1980. It was completed in 1987 as this is embroidered on the back edge of one side of this quilt along with the name Dot. This was made by Dorothy Brandenburg of Slinger, WI. She and her husband owned and operated the hotel in Slinger, WI. Each block of 4 triangles is 5.5" square. Each block is hand pieced and also hand quilted at 10 stitches per inch. There are 3 rows of quilting in each of the triangles making up this quilt. This is a very unusual quilt since it is "double sided". Each block is identical on both sides making this a double sided quilt. This quilt is almost the same as another made by Dorothy in 1981 which is listed under item #1004066. The difference between the two is that this one is pieced with the bases of the triangles red to blue and then blue to red to make a scrap pattern. The other quilt is also double sided but the triangles are pieced blue to blue and red to red creating a series of blue and red squares set on the diagonal. The sides of each quilt are done in a series of red calico triangles. There are no stains or wear. It appears to have never been used.
